DUTCH OLIEBOLLEN - Fat Balls - Yeast Variety

Why I Love This Recipe
Many enjoy these on New Year's Eve. However, they are enjoyed any time during the year if someone brings them to a meeting or gathering.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1 teaspoon yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
2-2/3 cups flour
1 cup raisins
Canola oil, for frying
Sugar, for sprinkling on warm oliebollen
Directions
In saucepan, heat milk and water until lukewarm (110 degrees). In large mixing bowl, combine, yeast, salt, sugar, flour, and raisins; add warm milk and water. Mix well, until mixture forms a thick, sticky batter. Batter should be thicker than pancake batter, thinner than bread dough.
Heat oil in deep fryer to 375 degrees. Drop dough by large spoonfuls into the hot oil. Depending on size, fry 5 to 8 minutes, or until golden, turning as needed. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with sugar or dip in sugar while warm, if desired.
