Garlic-roasted asparagus

Why I Love This Recipe
I helped my best friend's boyfriend plan a surprise dinner for my best friend as part of his proposal. This is the side dish he and my husband made. (Easy enough for my non-kitchen-oriented husband and her culinarily clueless boyfriend to make!)
. . . It worked, by the way. They're getting married next October!
Ingredients You'll Need
1 1b. asparagus
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 garlic cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Chop off the woody bottom ends of the asparagus stalks–about the bottom 2″ of each stalk. Put the asparagus in a bowl or pan, and add the olive oil. Use a garlic press to crush two garlic cloves into the asparagus. (If you don’t have a garlic press, chop the garlic finely with a sharp knife.) Toss the asparagus, oil, garlic, salt, and pepper together. Put the asparagus in the oven and roast for 8 minutes. Turn the oven down to 200 and leave the asparagus in the oven for the time it takes to finish the meal (not longer than 15 minutes).
