Haitian Beef Patties

Why I Love This Recipe

Quick and easy Haitian patties! Absolutely delicious!! They can be served for breakfast or at any Haitian partis as appetizers. These easy patties are made with store brought pastry dough (Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Sheets) If you’re an expert at making your own dough(to get that authentic Haitian patties), be my guest. Cause me? I can’t.

These can also be filled with seasoned shredded , herring or salt fish


Ingredients You'll Need

1 lb lean ground beef
1 onion diced
Bell peppers diced
Épis
1 tsp adobo
1 package Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry sheets
1 egg
1 tsp cooking wine
2 tsp tomato paste
2 tsp olive oil
Water


Directions

In a bowl, mix the meat with épis, adobo, and vinegar.
In a large skillet, add the marinated meat on medium high heat. Let it cook for about 20 minutes
Once cooked, remove meat and place it on a bowl and shred with a fork
On a skillet, add olive. Fry the tomato paste
Add 1/4 cup of water or less. Stir until the tomato paste dissolves. Add meat, diced onion, bell peppers and cooking wine. Stir very well
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Begin by setting the puff pastry sheets aside to thaw Approximately 30 minutes from freezer
Unfold the defrosted puff pastry sheets onto a counter dusted with flour and use a rolling pin to flatten out the sheet
Add about 1 tbs of the meat to the center of that side and fold the other half over. Use your finer or a fork to close the corners firmly. Wet the corner of pastry sheet to firmly close
Place the uncooked patties on a baking pan
In a small bowl, create an egg wash by mixing the egg and 1 tbs of water
Brush the top of each pastry with the egg wash
Place the patties in the oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on the outside.
