Oatmeal cookies

Why I Love This Recipe
This came out of one of the "Aunt Dimity" mystery novels. It comes out nice and moist and soft and makes about 4 dozen.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 C margarine/shortening
1 C sugar
2 eggs
5 T raisin water
2 C flour
1 t baking soda
1 t salt
1 t cinnamon
1/2 t nutmeg
2 C rolled oats
1 C raisins
2 C water
1/2 C chopped nuts (optional)
Directions
In a small saucepan, combine raisins and water. Boil, simmer 5 minutes. Let cool and set aside 5 T of the water, drain the raisins.
In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and raisin water, mix well. Blend dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Add raisins (and nuts) and mix well.
Drop heaping teaspoonfuls on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. Cool on racks.
