Why I Love This Recipe
Worth the wait, these donuts make a delicious special treat for a snow day or any other morning you have a little extra time.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 cup sourdough starter
1 cup sugar
4 tablespoons melted butter
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 large eggs
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
for rolling:
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions
Mix starter, eggs, buttermilk and melted butter in a large bowl. Whisk together dry ingredients and then stir into the wet ingredients just until blended. The dough should be thick but loose enough to drop from a spoon. In a deep saucepan, heat canola oil to 325 F. Scoop out dough with a cookie scoop and drop gently into the oil. Fry 6 or 7 at a time until medium brown and cooked through. Transfer to a towel to drain and roll in cinnamon sugar as soon as they are cool enough to handle.
